Thanks for the story. It's always fascinating to read about Aspergers from someone else's perspective. Thanks again.

I understand how you feel. I was really inspired by your story. I think being different is not an issue at all. It's how you deal with it to be a better person. Just continue to have more consultations with your doctor and you'll soon be like us.

I really appreciate your story. I have a cousin with Aspergers, and have gone through some pretty hellish depressions myself as a teen. I'm 25 now and I do have to say that what they tell you is true - it does get easier. Those times when you are feeling so depressed it can feel like there will never be a way out of it, no light at the end of the tunnel. But life goes and things do start to look better as you get a little older. Remember that things seem a lot worse in your head then they really are. What you see in the mirror is not necessarily what other people see when they pass you on the street.

I’ve heard of stories of people who have Asperger’s syndrome and still learned how to live their lives to the fullest. A good example would be Zev from the Zev and Justin pair in the Amazing race season 18. Although he was having a difficult time when learning the Samba during the Brazil leg, they were still able to finish strong thanks to Zev’s efforts.

Hi Alyson,

You are not alone in your thoughts and feelings - I can relate to all you have written and would love to talk via email sometime - a mum of a son whose diagnosis of Aspergers at 3 years of age opened up a whole new world of recognition and understanding for my own life (and that of my husband and the majority of our family members) - so that hopefully now we can better understand our son and help him where we all had none!!

Hi there,

Thank you for your honesty. Wow,many of your experiences are experiences that I can relate to and now I acknowledge that my children and grandchildren are experiencing.

Do you have children and grandchildren who experience the same problems?

Alyson, Thank you for publishing your story. Many of your experiences resonate with me. I've never been diagnosed with Aspergers or indeed any ASD condition but I was reading through your story and going "uh huh, mmm hmmm, yep, I can relate, wow is this person reaching into my brain and pulling out my thoughts!?!?"

I am lucky in that I have a very patient and tolerant wife who just rolls her eyes when I get into one of my "grumps" or down periods and leaves me to reset myself. Because of her support the resetting now takes hours instead of the days or weeks it used to take.

Thank you again. Blessings to you!
